If you don't already have a good Mexican cookbook this may nicely fill that hole in your collection。 Looking at the recipes, in addition to Mexican, there are dishes that have been adapted from other cultures。 It does look like home cooking and I'm not surprised that there's a Spanish edition。 It's tempting, but I have a couple of books about Mexican cuisine already。 If you don't already have a good Mexican cookbook this may nicely fill that hole in your collection。 Looking at the recipes, in addition to Mexican, there are dishes that have been adapted from other cultures。 It does look like home cooking and I'm not surprised that there's a Spanish edition。 It's tempting, but I have a couple of books about Mexican cuisine already。 。。。more

Wonderful book。 I wish I could thank Dita for putting this one on my radar。 The recipe for horchata is worth the price of admission all by itself。 The recipes in this one look to be genuine, yet approachable and doable for the ordinary home cook。 Well, the mole poblano is probably gonna take me like a day to get done, but if it turns out。。。so worth it。 I'll write updates once I've had a chance to try a few of these。 Well。。。 maybe after I get done chugging a gallon of the horchata。 Wonderful book。 I wish I could thank Dita for putting this one on my radar。 The recipe for horchata is worth the price of admission all by itself。 The recipes in this one look to be genuine, yet approachable and doable for the ordinary home cook。 Well, the mole poblano is probably gonna take me like a day to get done, but if it turns out。。。so worth it。 I'll write updates once I've had a chance to try a few of these。 Well。。。 maybe after I get done chugging a gallon of the horchata。 。。。more

I think if you're looking for truly authentic yet very basic Mexican recipes, this is for you。 The simplicity of every recipe was somewhat shocking to me。 I tend to look for more complex and elaborate flavors。 I did make the green rice right away (the rice recipes were the most complicated!) and it was delicious。 There wasn't a whole lot else in the book that really grabbed me。 I think if you're looking for truly authentic yet very basic Mexican recipes, this is for you。 The simplicity of every recipe was somewhat shocking to me。 I tend to look for more complex and elaborate flavors。 I did make the green rice right away (the rice recipes were the most complicated!) and it was delicious。 There wasn't a whole lot else in the book that really grabbed me。 。。。more

Made these dishes: empandas de carne molida, enchiladas verdes (esp delicioso!), arroz rojo, mole poblano, sopa de lentejas。 Want to make churros。 This bk was definitely more accessible for the home cook。 I liked how she wanted to learn how to make the dishes she had from her childhood to share with her own family。

I’ve read a lot of Mexican cookbooks, and this is by far the most approachable and accessible I’ve seen, containing many popular Mexican dishes。 Less anthropological and detailed than Diana Kennedy, and not as restaurant-y as Rick Bayless, the title of “the Mexican Home Kitchen” is completely spot on。 There are many recipes that I grew up on as a Mexican-American, and more I’ve eaten while traveling in Mexico or eating at an authentic Mexican restaurant。 So far, I’ve read the book, but haven’t m I’ve read a lot of Mexican cookbooks, and this is by far the most approachable and accessible I’ve seen, containing many popular Mexican dishes。 Less anthropological and detailed than Diana Kennedy, and not as restaurant-y as Rick Bayless, the title of “the Mexican Home Kitchen” is completely spot on。 There are many recipes that I grew up on as a Mexican-American, and more I’ve eaten while traveling in Mexico or eating at an authentic Mexican restaurant。 So far, I’ve read the book, but haven’t made anything from it yet。 The recipes are written simply and without hard-to-find ingredients—if you live in a town with a reasonably sized Latinx population。 From what I can tell, the ingredients and recipe proportions look right for home cooking, and the book stays away from the more complicated sauces and regional specialties that you’d find in Kennedy’s books。 Stared rating to come once I’ve made at least 3 recipes from it。**Since writing the above, I've made the arroz blanco y rojo, enchiladas verdes and chile rellenos recipes。 All contain familiar processes and techniques if you have any experience with Mexican cooking。 Ms。 Martinez does a great job breaking down the steps and clearly explaining them, and I would say that a beginning intermediate cook wouldn't have any problems following her recipes。 I didn't much care for her arroz blanco recipe--I feel that the flavor is better if the onion and garlic are sauteed before adding the rice, though it does alter the appearance of the dish if they're added without being pureed。 I'm not going to dock her a star for this, however, because I feel it's a matter of preference, and I appreciated learning this new-to-me way of making arroz blanco。 。。。more

Mexican food always mesmerize me, because the food I grow up with are also contains multitude of spices and they are so good。 So, curious as I am, this book is my very first authentic Mexican food, of course, chosen also for the story behind each food。 Thought I can finish reading it in one go, but no! Finished it in the next day because the book has so many recipes to offer (not only tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, tortilla and empanada) , and bookmarked some to try。

There were a few other potato and legume dishes that looked good。 I wish the main dish section was divided by protein or main ingredient so it would be easier to flip to what precisely might interest you。 The book has gorgeous photographs, increasing my wish to attempt some of these dishes myself。 If you're interested in Mexican home cooking, you might want to check this book out。I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review。My book blog: https://www。readingfanaticreviews。com 。。。more
